Yukon Beardtongue or Gorman's Penstemon

Also known as: Gorman's penstemon, Yukon beardtongue, Gorman's beardtongue.

Habitat: Common on dry, sandy and gravel-rich areas, such as grasslands, hills or raised gravel bars. This species is native to southwestern Yukon, the Carcross Desert, and into the interior of British Columbia.  It is found to elevations of 900 m (3,000 feet).

Interest: The common name of Penstemon is beard-tongue because of the throat of the flower. The tubular flowers have lobed lips.  They may vary in color from violet to blue-purple. The inside of the flowers are pale in colour and hairy.

Flower colour: Violet-blue.

Location: Silver City, Kluane Lake, Yukon
