Alpine harebell, copyright 2009 Andy Fyon, www.ontariowildflower.com

Habitat: In alpine meadows, rocky alpine areas, and tundra up to about 1600 metres (6,000 feet).

Interest: The single purple flower is large and appears to be out of proportion compared to the small size of the plant. The flower stem is 2-4 cm tall, but the flower may be up to 2.5 cm long. The term lasiocarpa means "fuzzy fruit" which describes the seed.  Note the smooth toothless leaves that is characteristic of this species, which  contrasts with Campanula lasiocarpa.
