Also known as: Small-flowered Anemone, Northern White Anemone. Habitat: Alpine meadows and slopes, tundra, river flats, and open subalpine woodlands. Interest: This plant is single flower heads consisting of about 6 sepals - no petals. The flowers are up to 4 cm across. The leaves are bluntly toothed. The sepals may have a bluish hue on the underside. There is a modified leaf that occurs immediately below the flower head. This leaf is diagnostic of Anemones. Many members of this genus contain protoanemonin, an oil can cause severe topical and gastrointestinal irritation.
